Joshua Olusoji, a sophomore majoring in chemical engineering, was awarded a STEM scholarship from Entegris Incorporated, through the Entegris Foundation.
The three-year long scholarship aims to help scholars meet their academic and career goals. The award includes internship opportunities and possible employment opportunities with Entegris upon graduation. The Entegris Foundation was established in 2020 to provide scholarship funding to select colleges and universities located in the US or in Taiwan, Korea, and Japan that have US affiliates.
Olusoji was nominated for the scholarship by Clinical Associate Professor Betul Bilgin, his thermal dynamics class professor. Prior to finding out about winning the scholarship, Olusoji’s classmates were convinced he would win the scholarship.
The application requires a minimum 3.0 GPA, active student leadership in student organizations, sports, and/or student government. Olusoji said that he is the parliamentarian for the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) at UIC and part of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
Finding out about winning the scholarship “made my whole day,” he said. Olusoji also noted that this scholarship will provide opportunities such as a tour of the foundation and internship and job opportunities post-graduation in addition to financial relief.
