1970 – there were only three or four Chemical Engineers as faculty members in a large (20+) Energy Engineering Department. As a group we were teaching all the undergraduate and graduate ChE courses.  We also kept using visiting professors from Industry and National Labs to teach some courses.

1965-1982 – Named Energy Engineering

In 1975, the Chemical Engineering Department was titled ENRE, for Energy Engineering. This focus addressed the “Energy Crises” – the October 19, 1973, OPEC Oil Embargo that “skyrocketed” the cost of a barrel of crude oil from $2.90 to $11.65. The price for a gallon of regular gasoline, at the pump, jumped to 53 cents a gallon.
