In 2019, we will enter a new era when we move to our new home: the Engineering Innovation Building.
This building—spanning 57,000 square feet and on track for completion at a carefully considered budget of $44 million—will reunite chemical engineering with UIC’s main campus, the five other departments in the College of Engineering, and the campus resources that support our students and faculty. We have created a short aerial video of the building design: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmHyKU6KT90.
The significantly increased, improved and specialized research space will provide opportunities to strengthen our research portfolio, which includes the areas of water purification, energy, catalysis, artificial photosynthesis, bionanotechnology, membrane science, 2D nanomaterials, complex fluidics, polymer science, photovoltaics, electrochemistry, green technologies and computational chemical engineering. There also will be space for innovative teaching and for student collaboration. I hope you will be able to see our new home when it officially opens in fall 2019.
