chemical engineering equipment

UIC chemical engineering research seeks to offer new insight into solving seemingly intractable social problems while providing hands-on experience for the doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students who will become the next generation of researchers.

In 2019, our department’s scholarly and scientific investigations received a significant boost via a 40-percent increase in laboratory space made possible by the opening of the Engineering Innovation Building. The building’s features include vibration-damped nanotechnology labs, biomedical research rooms, a darkroom for complex fluid imaging, and molecular engineering labs. The opening of this facility allows the UIC chemical engineering faculty to have a potentially greater impact in areas such as nanotechnology, environmental engineering, drug delivery, cancer detection, energy, biomedicine, and structural engineering.

Interdisciplinary research is prized in the chemical engineering department and across UIC, so we welcome outreach from researchers in all fields who envision new avenues for collaboration. Please visit our research areas page to see a list of our faculty sorted by expertise and our labs page to learn about our current projects in greater detail.
